AU where Loki doesn’t interfere with Thor’s banishment at all and it takes Thor years to prove himself worthy and when he returns to Asgard everything is just. The same. Nothing seems to have changed at all and everyone greets him like his absence was a minor obstacle that didn’t fundamentally change Thor and the worst part is Loki stepped down from the place as regent without any delay and Thor can’t help but feel there’s something underlaying the way his brother looks at him now and won’t let him touch him and Thor doesn’t know what he could have missed because he doesn’t think he would have found anything wrong with the things around him and how everyone behaves if he hadn’t spent time on Earth reflecting.
#the warriors 4 not being interested in anything Thor ‘learnt’ at all#and making it clear that Thor was punished unfairly and the AllFather’s decision had been harsh#Loki saying he’s happy for Thor and Thor sees the way the smiles are forced and he sees the way Loki avoids any touch#Thor hating the way Frigga talks about Loki’s short regency and Thor’s absence like it wasn’t two whole decades or something#like she’s so grateful to have her other son back without ever addressing why he was gone#Thor just. growing during his time on earth and being much more aware of the behaviour around him#he learns to be critical and assess why people around him may act a certain way#once he realises that it’s possible for him or anyone else to be fallible and make mistakes it’s over for Asgard for him I think#Thor returns and Loki gives him the throne and everyone expects him to obviously have the throne#and Odin is sleeping and Thor isn’t comfortable with the way everyone accepts him as king regent after the banishment#Loki who either never lashed out against Jotunheim or did and it was brushed away and no one thinks about it as anything#but Loki is still deeply affected and acts the way he always would have but Thor can feel it’s not the same#he knows something is wrong and Loki won’t say anything about it and Thor doesn’t know how to bring it up#Thor sees Loki metaphorically receding into the shadows to become a nonpresence so loud Thor hears it even after returning from decades away#Thor goes to Earth and gets his priorities in order gets a new worldview learns not to take what he has for granted#and finds out he actually despised Asgard#he’s been back a week and he can’t stand it

just noticed a plot hole in my mcd rewrite fic, cycles of love
gonna have to go back through all the chapters to rewrite whatever snippets have it
#aphmau#no but mcd is so hard to rewrite. mainly because of something I don’t think jess gets enough credit for with her writing#the plot of mcd is composed like a stack of dominos. where every little thing#even the nonsensical and fillery and crazy things that you think don’t matter or think can be easily cropped out for sanity sake#they build on top of one another and directly lead into future plot points that hinge on the tiniest details#like. for example. when levin is born#originally I thought that was a detail that didn’t really matter so I just changed it so that Matilda gives birth to levin AFTER Vylad#saves her and puts her in Scaleswind yeah?#yeah turns out Aphmau traveling to Scaleswind to meet Matilda in the first place depends on Gene/zenix/sasha knowing what levin looks like#in order to perfectly describe him for the missing child report that Aphmau follows to Scaleswind#yknow. the fake missing child report. because Vylad is hiding Matilda and levin from them and they’re trying to find levin#which MEANS they need to know what levin looks like in order to perfectly describe him#which only would have been possible if levin had been born BEFORE Vylad rescues her and brings her to Scaleswind#so. fuck me i guess LMAO#that is to say you’ll be getting a new scene in chapter one where Garroth and Zenix meet the new baby#when I’m done fixing the chapters#wish me luckkkkk (I want to tear my hair out)

maybe this is just me having had some really bad luck but I continue to just not understand the appeal of online shopping. like it just stresses me out so bad

my hot take of the day is that breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are not adaptable into any other format. by doing so, you'd lose a huge part of both games which is exploration. if you follow a predetermined narrative, it's a different formula. a huge point of botw was that you could do the main story in whatever order you want. hell, you could even not do the main story if you really wanted to. the any% speedrun is like 25 minutes because you can just. go to the final boss. and totk is bigger, but it's not much different. you can't adapt that freedom of exploration and choice into another format in a way that really matters.
#legend of zelda#breath of the wild#tears of the kingdom#like yeah there's a TON of fanfiction for both games#but that all hits different because it's narrative-driven. because it's the written word#there's no freedom of choice in reading a fanfiction or book or watching a movie#like yes there are interactive movies and books but even then that's limited#usually to a couple choices at a time and each choice having a predetermined outcome#and each choice taking you further into the narrative#with botw/totk you get a lot of the story and lore by just. exploring#i mean totk has this side quest where you find markers that tell stories of the past#there are historians all over the map in both games who will freely tell you about the land#there are link's memories in botw and the dragon's tears in totk#that are sort of meant to be done out of order so that the context of the story is revealed slowly#(that's something i'm enjoying about resident evil revelations 2 but it has a different format)#(i like slow reveals of the story before it reaches a climax at some point)#i think botw/totk would be rather boring as a movie/tv series adaptation#i even bored myself trying to write a version of botw (i forget the word now)#because a lot of it is really just. walking around. getting distracted and finding new things#it REWARDS that even#idk what my point is anymore

baking never feels more like science to me than when i'm trying to cobble together an intricate multi step recipe together from several different recipes and tutorials online because the recipe I'm imagining doesn't exist....
#genuinely feels like a science experiment making something fancier than a frosted layer cake#have to do all kinds of volume and weight conversions because one recipe is japanese and the other is indian and the other is english lmfao#none of the recipes are probably the exact volume I need so i might have to make some minis with my extra stuff#i have to find a very precise sheet pan size tomorrow for the patterned cake i'm gonna use as the outer bit#otherwise i'll have to make my own from parchment paper??? or tin foil??? man idk.....#i had to write out all of my instructions and ingredient lists so i don't have to go between 6 different websites tomorrow/sat#i had to do research on fucking. gelatine 😭because it's impossible to find gelatine sheets here and they're used in EVERY mousse recipe#and there's apparently a huge debate on what the ACTUAL conversion of sheet gelatine to powdered gelatine is for baking#I also had to type up like an exact order to make each component because most need a significant amount of cooling time#grayson im gonna try my hardest to make you this fancy ass lemon cake and i pray i succeed this time where i failed on my own birthday#2 yrs ago but also i think this will go better bc i'm not doing a jelly insert or a candied mirror glaze#I'm also making my own candied lemons and lemon curd even though i don't have to#mostly because i wanna try doing it and the sheer power of getting to say i made the whole thing from scratch *#minus the actual cake mix because i don't have a good from scratch cake track record and box mixes are so so reliable#and i have too many moving parts to worry about finding a new cake recipe#every fucking cake recipe now is a fucking genoise sponge for SOME REASON#which is NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT AND A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS BECAUSE IT USES NO RISING AGENTS#i want to throttle whoever it was that made online recipe people turn to only using variations of a genoise sponge for their cake recipes#honestly i need to maybe join the baking subreddit and ask for some good old baking/cookbooks with reliable baking recipes#ones that aren't crazy labor intensive for fucks sake i'm not a french patisserie#my stuff#it would be cool to one day have baked enough and have enough know how of how standard baking recipe components work#so i can just come up with my own recipes on my own#and just use whatever flavors i want#i feel like i would enjoy being a baker except if i had to make wedding cakes

begging people to realize that the back warehouse of a grocery store is not a second, secret grocery store that has everything you need plus some extra secret items the first grocery store does not have
#look it probably varies from store to store#but at least where i work the back is a fucking mess.#like. you're imagining neat tidy shelves and specific sections for each product#that is not what the back is. it's a disorganized hellhole with every type of product piled haphazardly on top of each other#wheelers lying around with the most random items.#you have to understand that if a grocery worker were to 'check in the back' for something#it would likely take 10ish minutes if it WAS there.#and like. stuff like produce isn't just going to be kept in boxes in the back either. or meat or seafood.#if they have sellable meat or produce they're not just going to stick it in some deep freezer in the back#and wait for it to become two days away from unsellable before they bring it out.#with those departments especially if they have something you want it is going to be on display#and if it's not they don't have it.#stuff like soda is a bit easier to find usually#but even then there's so many different brands all piled together in crates on the same wheeler#not even opened#and i hate to say it but most grocery workers honestly just have more important things to do#than go rooting around like truffle pigs in the back for the stuff you want.#they might be doing price change or they might be stocking a new product#or they might be trying to fill a central display case#or they might be filling an online shopping order and thus on a time crunch#and even if none of those are the case a grocery worker can get called away to a different task on a dime.#they can't just drop everything to hunt in the back for whatever fucking granola bars you want so bad.#absolutely we can tell you where things are#and we can recommend alternatives to out of stock items. sure. but you'll only be wasting your time and ours#if you ask us to check for something in the back.

Okay I’m adding two more resolutions for 2025. I am exclusively mood-reading books, which means no TBR and no regimented planned reading, and I am also refusing to wear anything I don’t want to wear
#my mum asked if i’m dressing up for new year’s dinner and i was like actually no i’m really not#in past years i would’ve put on something slightly uncomfortable and non-temperature appropriate just to look nice#and yeah it’s a nice-ish restaurant we’re going to. but there’s no dress code or anything#what i’m wearing right now is clean; comfortable; fitted; i’m warm in it; i feel like i can move in it and eat a three course meal#(it’s basically stretchy jeggings and a cotton jumper)#i was thinking about putting on tights and a dress but i was like you know what fuck that#we’re not being uncomfortable in 2025#like i MIGHT put boots on instead of wearing my running trainers to the nice restaurant but you’ll have to be satisfied with that i’m afraid#i’m also not ingesting anything i do not want to ingest. meaning no i will not be having wine with dinner#i don’t feel like it. i might not be drinking anything other than water for the foreseeable in fact#the book thing might not make sense to anybody. basically i really like joining reading challenges/readathons because sometimes i genuinely#do not know what i want to read; and it gives me a sense of accomplishment when i complete stuff#but too many of them have really specific prompts that lead to me creating a really regimented tbr of like 6 specific books#i ‘have’ to read in THIS specific order and like…… we’re not doing it anymore#truly i’m embarrassed that it’s taken me this long to have this epiphany but genuinely#if your reading challenge doesn’t allow me to freestyle a bit i am simply not doing it. or i’ll make my own or simply not do one that month#idk. either way i did find one with some pretty broad general prompts and there’s no specific order at all so i printed that one out#my problem right now is there are too many books i want to read LOL#i want to finish butter but i want to start the next whyborne and griffin book but i want to read lolita and i also want to read mars house-#help.#personal

You have... very very very very very very very very smart people you know, and they're say something that not only isn't true, but literally is as opposite of the truth as it's possible to be... and you'll... gently inform them "hey, it's actually a bit more like this" and then they just kinda... go on saying literally the exact same thing
I'm not sure if it's just that... I often feel like I must be very bad at communicating, or people must just not notice/ignore a lot of what I say, but... I don't know
Like dearest friend, you've said something as absurd as... I don't know, it's hard to say without saying it, but honest to god about as absurd as saying the United States was a part of the USSR, that level of completely getting it backwards
...and it just doesn't seem to matter when I try to explain it... I legit don't even know if you read what I said

Learned a recipe for achma today and it is literally Georgian kugel. I love convergent culinary evolution so much. Also learned a recipe for a Ukrainian Romani vegetable dish my friend's family makes and a Lebanese aromatic stew that is served over rice. Really excited to try cooking these soon
